Heart-Disease: Is That Healthy Fish Really So Healthful?

ELLE Magazine's April issue explores how the most health-conscious
eaters may be exposing themselves to dangerous levels of mercury.
For years fish has been a dietary staple among weight-watchers and
the most health-conscious consumers. Many believe that the omega-3
fatty acids in salmon and tuna can prevent heart disease and
wrinkles as well as make their brains both brainier and less
susceptible to depression.

However, Dr. Jane Hightower, [an Internal medicine specialist]
reports in ELLE's April issue, that a dangerous level of mercury is
found in some very common types of fish: swordfish, shark, ahi,
canned tuna. She discusses the three-year study that led to her
concluding that too much of the wrong kind of fish can give you a
nasty case of mercury poisoning.

Heart-Disease: Interpreting an EKG

EKGs can assist doctors in diagnosing and determining any current or
past heart abnormalities and are often a regular screening for those
with heart disease. Through electrodes attached at various strategic
body points, the EKG machine records the electrical impulses of the
heart. The results of the impulses are displayed on a computer
monitor and then printed onto graph paper. The attending physician
or EKG technician interprets your heart health by reading the
graphed EKG image.

EKGs are a critical tool for medical professionals to diagnose and
treat heart ailments. The EKG reading of your heart is compared to
the reading of a standard/normal heart in order to get an idea of
your heart function. Abnormalities in the heart rate, heart rhythm
or contractions and relaxations can signal the presence of past
heart attacks, heart disease or coronary artery disease. If any of
these symptoms are present, your doctor will refer you for further
testing.

Heart-Disease:Immunity and the Immune System

Since the 1930’s the western diet has dramatically changed. This
change is due to the change in farming from the natural farming
process which has developed over 1000’s of years to a modern
scientific farming which has changed farming into an industry. This
food industry is not interested in producing good quality
nutritional food for the nation but food that is easy to store and
cheap to produce which in tern will maximise profit. This has
changed the western diet to concise of high sugar, fat and protein
which is low in vital nutrients.

Not only since the 1930’s has the western diet changed but also
people’s lifestyles have changed. The over use of antibiotics,
stress at work, lack of exercise, excessive consumption of alcohol,
smoking, use of recreational drugs, increases in obesity and low
nutritional status of food all affect the immune system and are
contributing to the increase in degenerative diseases in western
societies.

Heart-Disease: If I Suffer from Heart Disease

I have heart disease – are there any erectile disfunction or male
impotence treatments suitable for me?
Heart disease can be associated with various factors that increase
the likelihood of erectile disfunction or male impotence, and make
treatment more difficult.

Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), which is frequently
involved in heart disease, can also affect the arteries that supply
blood to the penis, thereby reducing the blood supply to it and
leading to erectile disfunction. Smoking makes this worse, and
quitting smoking should always be a priority.

Heart-Disease: How the Protein Diet Works

Protein is an essential nutrient necessary for maintaining good
health. In its basic form protein consists of amino acid chains. Of
the 22 amino acids that are capable of creating protein, 8 of these
can only be obtained through a protein diet. Because these amino
acids are utilized by the body a low protein diet can affect a host
of very important functions. The building of our skin, hair, nails
and internals organs all depend on amino acids and are maintained
trough a protein diet.

Muscle tissue as well as new tissue growth need protein for their
activities and can receive adequate levels with a protein diet.
Protein intake from a high protein diet helps to transport nutrients
and oxygen to our cells. The valuable protein diet aids and
maintains antibody production.

Heart-Disease: How 40,000 People Reversed Heart Disease

Written by the Editors at Weight Loss Buddy Press in colaboration

Hans A. Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, FACN, CNS

It is well known that about two-thirds of the U.S. population is
either overweight or obese. The U.S. Surgeon General has stated that
approximately 75% of Western diseases, such as heart disease,
stroke, hypertension, diabetes, gout, arthritis, excess weight gain,
hypertension, diabetes, some cancers, impotence, diverticular
disease, constipation, heartburn, and gallbladder disease, are
“lifestyle-related.” They are directly correlated with our high fat
diet, inadequate amounts of exercise, smoking, high intake of
caffeine, and high amounts of stress coupled with insufficient
support.

Heart-Disease: High Cholesterol

is a very common diagnosis by doctors nowadays when dealing with
patients. Cholesterol has been identified as to increase the risk of
heart diseases. But what is Cholesterol at all?

Cholesterol is a substance produced by the human liver. The body
produces Cholesterol to build up acids that help with the digestion
of fat that we eat with our meals. Cholesterol is also supposed to
build and repair cell. It is also part of the process to produce
estrogens and the testosterone hormone. Most people affected by high
Cholesterol have never heard of what Cholesterol is and what it
does.

Cholesterol plays an important role for the human body. So, how can
this substance turn itself into something that puts your health at
danger? As with almost everything in life Cholesterol only does a
good job when available in certain limits. If these limits get
pushed high up (= high Cholesterol) it turns itself into something
putting your health at risk. High Cholesterol has been proven to
clog up arteries which again can lead to stroke and heart attack.
Statistics show that about 500,000 of the US population die through
heart disease related incidents. Once diagnosed with high
Cholesterol and taking appropriate action the risk of heart attack
can be reduced by up to 40%.

Heart-Disease: High blood pressure!? What!?

If you get scared every time you hear this expression “high blood
pressure” you are right. And for you, who say you don’t care at all
about that, you should consider revising your concepts.

High blood pressure is a silent disease that affects one in three
adults only in United States and most of them don’t even imagine
they have high blood pressure. And this is where the danger of this
disease lies.

How can you treat a disease that you don’t even know you have? Well,
you can’t. And that’s why in many cases you only find out when any
side effect related to the high blood pressure happens to you.

Heart-Disease: Hoodia Gordonii and a Healthy Diet

The fact is that your only true advantage in achieving a happier,
ill-free, and definitely longer life is your knowledge and
conviction in the payback of a healthy diet. Not only will eating
healthier make you more active and stronger, it also strengthens you
immune system and prevents the possibilities of the occurrence of
life-threatening ailments like cancers and heart diseases.

For a healthy individual, a good diet can maintain the proper
functioning of his or her body. Maintenance of every healthy single
tissue and organ is necessary in order to achieve a healthy style of
living.

Heart-Disease: Healthy eating with fruits and vegetables

Dietary experts recommend that every person should eat at least five
servings of fruits and vegetables every day. The importance of
fruits and vegetables to a healthy diet has been known for quite
some time, but studies have shown that very few people eat the
amount of fruits and vegetables recommended for a healthy diet.

That’s a shame, since eating a sufficient number of fruits and
vegetables just may be the single most effective thing you can do to
improve your overall health. The five a day approach to healthy
eating may be the single most important strategy you can adopt for a
healthier lifestyle.

The many health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables have been
established for quite some time now. Study after study has shown
that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of certain
cancers, heart disease and other chronic diseases and conditions.

Heart-Disease:Gastric Bypass Surgery - Is It Right For You?

When we hear all the success stories of the gastric bypass, it
sounds so easy. One pricey operation and the pounds just fly off!
Right? Not quite. Gastric bypass surgery is only advised to those
who are morbidly obese – this is someone with a body mass index
greater then 40 and men and women between 80-100 pounds their ideal
body weight.

The gastric bypass is also sometimes recommended to patients
suffering obesity along with other conditions such as heart disease
or type 2 diabetes. If the surgeon is happy the health benefits
outweigh the possible side effects of gastric bypass surgery then it
maybe recommended.

Heart-Disease: Free Program about Heart Health

When it comes to heart disease risk factors -- like high
blood cholesterol and high blood pressure -- one plus one can equal
three, five or even nine times higher risk! Adding risk factors can
actually multiply your risk.

You can’t change some risk factors, like your age or family history.
But you can change others, like high cholesterol. That’s good news.

Here’s more good news: The American Heart Association offers a free
program called The Cholesterol Low Down that can help you learn
about your risk for heart disease. The program urges you to do three
things to help protect your heart:

Heart-Disease: FOCUS ON FIBER: How Much is Enough?

By Monique N. Gilbert, B.Sc.

http://www.MoniqueNGilbert.com

Looking for an easy and natural way increase your vitality and
improve your overall well-being? Try eating more fiber!

The average American only gets about half the amount of fiber they
need everyday for their body to function optimally. According to the
American Heart Association (AHA), fiber helps lower cholesterol and
is important for the health of our digestive system. Both the AHA
and the National Cancer Institute recommend that we consume 25 to 30
grams of fiber daily.

Heart-Disease:Fats and carbohydrates

Lately it would seem that fats and carbohydrates have both gotten a
bad rap. First it was fat that was the culprit in all dietary ills,
and low fat diets were all the rage. Then the two switched places,
with carbohydrates being the bad guys and fat reigning supreme.

As with most extremes, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. There
is no such thing as a bad food, only bad dietary choices. While some
foods are naturally better for you than others, there is no reason
that all foods cannot be enjoyed in moderation. After all, the most
successful diet is not one that you can follow for a day, a week or
even a year. On the contrary, the only successful diet and nutrition
program is one that you will be able to follow for a lifetime.

Heart-Disease: Food that's good for a healthy heart

Here's a conundrum: While experts agree that high cholesterol and
blood pressure are crucial heart disease risk factors, many people
who suffer chest pain or even heart attacks have levels that are
perfectly normal. This puzzle has prompted researchers to scour the
body for other cardiovascular villains. Several have emerged in
recent years, but the one that stands out the most is inflammation.

The latest studies suggest that chronic inflammation of the lining
of arteries is an important factor in the development of
atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. What causes this
inflammation is not clear, but the good news is that (1) the advice
that is given for lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and
triglycerides also works fine for fighting inflammation; and (2) you
can tackle all 4 culprits with the help of dietary weapons. In fact,
you can plan your war against heart disease in your kitchen. Here is
how

Heart-Disease: Fats, Good Bad

Fats, The Good…The Bad and Omega 3.
This has become a hot topic lately. There is so much talk of fats,
the healthy fats, the bad fats, the trans fats. I have done some
research on fats, trying to keep it simple for us. Here is some
important information I have come up with. Omega 3 has become a
favorite topic of mine. It has such amazing health improvement
qualities. Remember, this is for your information only, and not
meant as gospel nor is it meant for diagnostic purposes.
Saturated fats
Saturated fat is the main dietary cause of high blood cholesterol.
The American Heart Association recommends that you limit your
saturated fat intake to 7–10 percent of total calories (or less)
each day. If you have coronary heart disease or your LDL cholesterol
level is 100 mg/dL or greater, your doctor should recommend the
Therapeutic Lifestyle Change (TLC) Diet. It recommends 25–35 percent
of calories from fat, with less than 7 percent coming from saturated
fat. Cholesterol is limited to less than 200 milligrams a day.
Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals and some plants.

Heart-Disease: The importance of low body-fat levels!

My name is Greg Ryan and I am a high profile fitness expert. In
twenty years of being a personal trainer and health club consultant,
I am frightened at how fast the health of Americans is
deteriorating. You are being eaten alive from the inside out by
diabetes, heart disease and obesity. And the scary thing is either
you do not know it YET, or you are in denial of the problem.

You have a choice to make and you better make it soon, before it’s
too late. Is this a scare tactic? You bet it is! I am very tired of
patting people on the back who walk into my clinics and want
something for nothing. I’m frustrated with listening to people make
excuses for not exercising and eating right. Your weight gain and
high body fat levels will comes down to three things; denial, pride
and laziness.

Diabetics: The Added Benefit of Exercise in People with Diabetes

You are no doubt aware that exercise can help prevent the serious
complications that often come with diabetes and heart disease.
Research has repeatedly shown that regular physical activity helps
reduce the likelihood of having a heart attack or a stroke, aids in
weight loss, and improves mood.

But do you know that exercise can also help you reduce your blood
glucose levels?
That's right. In people with type II diabetes, exercise may improve
insulin sensitivity and assist in lowering elevated blood glucose
levels into the normal range.

Heart-Disease: Excessive Fat kills.

In this new century, news media are finally aware that America's
major health problem is obesity. Excess weight not only contributes
to almost every health risk, it can actually multiply the risk
factors, including those from tobacco. It has already been reported
that tobacco causes
more deaths than AIDS / HIV, maternal mortality, automobile
accidents, homicide and suicide combined, yet obesity makes
the risks even higher.

You don't have to be 300 pounds overweight for fat to be harmful.
Being "pleasingly plump" or even leaner can be enough to increase
your risks of various ailments, such as cancers, diabetes, heart
disease, memory loss, menopause, osteoporosis, PMS, stroke.

Heart-Disease: Drug Companies Hijack Clinton's Heart News

When Bill Clinton was scheduled for heart surgery, reporters spoke
of how he had been a junk food addict, loving burgers, fries, and
shakes, even eating a whole pie at one sitting.

After his quadruple bypass surgery, the major TV news shows talked
about how Bill had stopped taking his statin drugs, and showed many
of the pricey brands of pills.

Naughty, naughty, bad Bill.

Whoa! Stop! Time out!

Bad eating habits can clog arteries, despite any medications taken.
Good eating habits can reduce blood cholesterol levels and the
likelihood of plaque deposits. In fact, several medical studies have
shown that lifestyle changes can even reverse heart disease, with or
without drugs.

Heart-Disease: Doctors make life saving discovery for patients with coronary artery disease

Major study shows addition of widely used agent to treatment can
prevent 50,000 heart attacks and deaths in Canada
(NC)—Cardiovascular disease remains the leading killer in Canada. In
fact, one in five of all deaths each year are from coronary artery
disease, the most common manifestation of heart disease. Despite
medical advances, far too many men and women continue to die
prematurely from this deadly disease. Many people may know they have
coronary disease yet feel quite well until suddenly they are struck
down by a heart attack. New treatment strategies are badly needed.

Common heart pill enhances survival hopes

An important international heart study published in the prestigious
medical journal The Lancet, showed that patients with coronary
artery disease who add the safe and inexpensive blood pressure drug
perindopril (Coversyl®) to their existing treatment can
significantly reduce their risk of heart attacks and heart related
deaths.

Heart-Disease: Do you know these tricks to avoiding fat for healthier eating?

While some fat in the diet is necessary, and it would be a mistake
to try to eliminate all fat from the diet, most people simply eat
too much fat. Cutting back on fat is an important part of creating a
healthier diet and lifestyle.

There are a number of good reasons for cutting back on levels of
dietary fat. Those reasons include:

- Lowering levels of dietary fat helps in weight loss and weight
management. Fat contains twice as many calories per gram as protein
and carbohydrates, so eating less fat usually means consuming fewer
calories.
- Lowering fat has been shown to decrease the risk of heart disease.
Dietary fat, particularly saturated fat, has been implicated as a
factor in heart disease and elevated cholesterol levels.
- A low fat diet may help to reduce the risk of some forms of
cancer. Although this matter has not been totally settled, there
have been a number of studies which indicate that a diet low in fat
can keep certain cancers at bay.

Heart-Disease: DO YOU NEED MORE OXYGEN?

There is not as much oxygen in our environment today as there was
hundreds of years ago. At one time the oxygen level was at 38%, now
it is at 21%, and in some cities, even as low as 18%. Thus in our
present environment, we have only about half the oxygen that our
bodies were designed to run on in order to be in good health.

Without adequate oxygen, our body fluids and blood can become dirty
and toxic. Viruses, fungus, parasites, and unfriendly germs thrive
in an environment that is low in oxygen, high in carbon dioxide, and
high in acid or a low pH factor.

Heart-Disease: Deadly heart disease strikes more women than men

Although heart disease is the number one killer of women in
Canada, very few women actually consider the disease a major health
concern. In fact, women and their doctors often miss the symptoms of
heart disease, passing them off as the normal aches and pains of
aging or indigestion or stress.

The traditional belief that heart disease predominantly affects men
is false. In 2000, 36 per cent of all female deaths in Canada were a
result of heart disease compared to 34 per cent for males. As women
age the risk of dying from heart disease increases dramatically.
Researchers believe that after menopause women lose the heart
protecting benefits of estrogen. The result is a steep increase in
heart disease and death. Women need to educate themselves on the
risks of this deadly disease and play an active role in their own
heart health.

Heart-Disease: Active Sex - A Key to Good Health

Active Sex - A Key to Good Health

Make sex the vital root of health and happiness in your daily life.
It gives you pleasure. It satisfies you. Above all, it keeps you
healthy. You can burn up to 200 calories if you engage in energetic
sexual activities. This is just the beginning for when we go into
details you will know why your sex life is a very important part of
you.

Sex reduces heart disease risks
Take the case of women. Till they are 40, heart diseases are rare
amongst them. But once they cross the menopause hurdle, the heart
walls thicken, arteries stiffen and women become more prone to heart
diseases. Here, an active sex life can make matters easier for you.
Researchers at the Queen’s University say that making love three or
more times a week helps women as well as men stay away from many
diseases relating to the heart.

Heart-Disease: Combat high blood pressure and cholesterol with soybeans

You may have heard of the “Portfolio Diet” wherein it has been
clinically accepted that increasing the intake of soy based foods
can reduce levels of LDL cholesterol as much as some statin drugs.

Well, now it seems that soybeans have another health-giving quality:
they also reduce blood pressure.

This latest finding is making quite a bit of noise in medical
circles and not without reason. Can you imagine how hard the two
largest drug markets (cholesterol and blood pressure) would be hit
if the American Heart Association or the American College of
Cardiology released a statement saying that soybeans can reduce bad
cholesterol and control blood pressure? Just think about it. But
that’s where it will stop; in your thoughts. With all the lobbying
power of the giant pharmaceutical industry, I seriously doubt that
such a statement from an internationally recognized source will ever
be released.

Heart-Disease: 10 Tips On How To Lower Cholesterol

Seriously high levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol (LDL) represent a
menacing cause of heart disease. By lowering the LDL level in your
blood, you will automatically lower the total level of the
cholesterol in your body (the HDL also known as the ‘good’
cholesterol and the LDL – the ‘bad’ cholesterol) and it will prevent
the occurrence of heart disease. You can use a drug treatment to
lower the cholesterol level, but you can also use a more healthy
method – the dietary agents and food supplements that will lower
your cholesterol in a natural way. In other words, a diet low in
saturated fats and rich in fibres may help you lower cholesterol
levels downwards to a normal limit.

Heart-Disease: 5 Simple Signs to Tell if it is Acid Reflux or Heart Pain

Chest pain can be a very scary, serious issue. If you are one of
many Americans at risk for heart disease, it can be even more
frightening. But sometimes chest pain isn't heart related, it is a
digestive issue.
Heartburn, or it's more serious cousin acid reflux, affects millions
of people everyday. The symptoms of both heart problems and acid
reflux are very similar, but the treatment is obviously very
different. It's easy to mistake one for the other because the
esophagus is located behind the heart in the chest cavity.
Identifying the real problem when you have chest pain is very
important. Here's a few things to look out for. But remember, when
in doubt see your health care provider.

Heart-Disease: 25 Reasons Why You Should Drink Green Tea Now

Green tea has increasingly become a very popular drink worldwide
because of its immensely powerful health benefits. It is
extraordinarily amazing what green tea can do for your health. And
if you're not drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea today, you're
definitely NOT doing your health a big favor.

Here Are The 25 Reasons Why You Should Start Drinking Green Tea
Right Now:

Green Tea and Green tea helps prevent heart disease and stroke by lowering the
level of cholesterol. Even after the heart attack, it prevents cell
deaths and speeds up the recovery of heart cells.

Heart-Disease: Add years to your life and save your heart for free

If you were told that you can add years to your life, get your
cholesterol levels back to normal and protect yourself from heart
disease and atherosclerosis, all for free would you believe it?

No need for the latest “fashionable” supplement or designer drug. No
need to worry about unwanted drug side-effects and expense. You
don’t even have to be too concerned about your “bad” LDL
cholesterol! Yes, you read correctly.

It sounds too good to be true, but it isn’t …

Every day the evidence is piling up that links an increased risk of
heart disease and stroke more strongly to low levels of the “good”
HDL cholesterol rather than to high levels of the “bad” LDL. Studies
have clearly shown that for every one-milligram rise in HDL, the
risk for developing cardiovascular disease falls by 2 to 3 percent.
There is a really simple, zero cost way of increasing your HDL by
5mg – that means a 15% reduction in the possibility of suffering
from heart disease!

Diabetics: Xylitol Glossary of Prevention and Benefits

Xylitol, a relatively new, natural preventative is relatively
unheard of by the public, yet it affects our lives on an everyday
basis. In fact, we are more familiar with it than we know-at least
our bodies are. Our bodies produce about 15 grams of xylitol on a
daily basis, and yet most of us do not know how beneficial it is to
our bodies.

Only recently has Xylitol been used as the dominant ingredient in
preventative solutions and medicines, but it is about time we
understood what xylitol is and what it can do for us. In an effort
to familiarize mothers; families; business men and women; and
everyone with eyes, ears, mouth, and nose; with xylitol, I have
formulated this article into a glossary of xylitol, its preventative
power, and its other benefits.

Diabetics: Why Whey Protein?

With all of the recent negative press given to body supplements, it
makes good sense to be cautions about using different nutritional
supplements as a part of your body building efforts.

Whey protein has been lauded as a safe, natural and simple
supplement. It's use has become popular for those genuinely
interested in good health through physical fitness and body
building.

The importance of adequate protein levels in the body cannot be
ignored. Since protein is used up when exercising, body builders
must prevent muscle deterioration by maintaining protein levels.
Naturally, building additional muscle mass will also require
adequate levels.

Diabetics: Whey Protein - Nature's Amazing Muscle Builder

Are you concerned about taking care of your body before and after
strenuous activities or workouts? Do you try to avoid supplements
that contain additives and possible side effects?

If you are interested in better health and improved physical fitness
you have surely heard that bodybuilders and other athletes are
turning to a simple, natural supplement called whey protein.
WHY DO ATHLETES USE WHEY PROTEIN?

Protein levels are depleted through exercise. Muscles require amino
acids to prevent deterioration, give endurance and build mass.
Proteins supply these amino acids to the muscles which is why
athletes use whey protein.

Diabetics: What's Up With My Triglycerides?

Perhaps it is because I am getting older that I think cartoons are
not what they used to be. I have five young children, all boys. Like
any concerned parent I govern what they watch. I have found that
some of the most detrimental shows on television are actually the
cartoons because of the values, or lack of them, that they teach.

Fortunately some of the classics are still around. My favorite has
always been that wascally wabbit Bugs Bunny and his trademark
expression, “What’s up, Doc?” Unfortunately, for many of us the
answer to the question, “What’s up, Doc?” is, “Your triglycerides.”
Triglycerides are becoming increasingly important in heart health
matters. In fact in the ‘Third Report of the National Cholesterol
Education Program (NCEP)’, triglyceride testing is recommended as
part of a complete cholesterol profile. In other words, it is
recommended that doctors evaluate high cholesterol treatments in
respect to a patient’s triglyceride levels.

Diabetics: Vitamin E - Just the Facts.

It is important to understand that we are ultimately responsible for
our own well-being and should do whatever is necessary to maintain
our health and assist our bodies in resisting and fighting disease.
Since health practitioners agree that vitamins are essential for
life and health, we must ensure that we receive adequate amounts for
our bodies to function properly and to protect us from illnesses.
Vitamin E is one of the vitamins to which we should pay particular
attention.

A vitamin is an organic substance essential for life that regulates
metabolism and assists the processes that release energy from
digested food. Vitamin E, discovered in the mid-twentieth century,
assists in strengthening our immune systems and helps protect us
from a variety of problems as well as several serious illnesses.
This vitamin can be obtained from food or supplements.

Diabetics: TREATING HYPERTENSION

In most cases, high blood pressure is usually present long before
its complications developed and shows some of its symptoms. In order
to treat high blood pressure it is important to detect it in its
earliest stage before it can do severe damages to the critical
organs in the body. In addition, the increases in public awareness
as well as the promotion of some screening programs that are aimed
towards the detection of hypertension in its earliest stage are some
of the keys that lead to successful treatment of hypertension. The
essence of treating high blood pressure in its earliest stage can
decrease significantly the risk of stroke, heart attack and even
kidney failure. Moreover, life style changes in patients which are
pre-hypertensive are advised since it is not yet well proven that
treatment by means of medication are beneficial for patients with
pre-hypertension.

Diabetics: Top 7 Ways that Exercise Helps Diabetics

Exercise is an important tool in managing your diabetes in order to
live a longer, healthier life.

1. Exercise increase insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. The
key problem of Type 2 diabetics is insulin insensitivity, or insulin
resistance. By exercising you can improve how well your insulin
works; this helps you to control your blood glucose level.

2. Exercise improves your cholesterol levels. Exercise helps by
raising the good kind of cholesterol (HDL) and lowering the bad kind
of cholesterol (LDL). Exercise can also lower triglyceride levels.
This is good news for diabetics as diabetics are at increased risk
for cardiovascular disease. I myself have had cholesterol problems,
but between proper diet and exercise and no drugs, I now have a much
healthier cholesterol levels.

Diabetics: Top 7 Ways that Exercise Helps Diabetics

Diabetics: The Truth About Weight Loss."

All of our behavior results from the thoughts that preceded it, so
the thing to work on is not your behavior, but the thing that caused
your behavior, your thoughts.
- Dr. Wayne Dyer

Let me preface this article with the notion that I truly, indeed
detest the word diet, but for simplicities sake… I’ll use it!

The stark reality is that sometimes eating too little can be a
literal roadblock in attaining a lean fit and healthy body.

Eating less in daily calories (food/nutrients), than your minimum
metabolic needs causes your body to burn muscle and store fat.

This is what is called the 'Starvation Metabolism' response, where
the body, when deprived of adequate calories, will adapt to need
fewer calories to function. As a result, dieters often regain the
weight they lose almost immediately because they have starved their
body into becoming a "fat-storing machine." Sadly the truth!

Diabetics: The Profect Solution for Diabetics

Diabetes, which affects more than 6% of the US population or over
18,000,000 people [i], is diagnosed when the body is not creating or
effectively utilizing the hormone called insulin. As a result,
much-needed energy from sugar, starch, and other sources are not
being exploited as effectively as they should. This can lead to
severe adverse health consequences, including nerve, ocular, and
kidney problems [ii].

While genetics and environmental factors play a role, the exact
cause of diabetes is as yet undetermined. However, one thing is
precisely clear to those with this condition: eating right is
vitally important.

Diabetics: The Glycemic Index: Key To Weight Loss Or Just Another Diet Gimmick?

The glycemic index (GI) is a scale that measures how quickly
carbohydrate foods are broken down into glucose. The original
purpose for the glycemic index was to help diabetics keep their
blood sugar under control. The glycemic index has recently attracted
a lot of attention in the bodybuilding, fitness and weight loss
world and has even become the central theme in numerous best-selling
diet books as a method to choose the foods that are best for losing
weight.

According to advocates of the glycemic index system, foods that are
high on the GI scale such as rice cakes, carrots, potatoes, or grape
juice are "unfavorable" and should be avoided because high GI foods
are absorbed quickly, raise blood sugar rapidly and are therefore
more likely to convert to fat or cause health problems.

Diabetics:The Glycemic Index and Dieting

The field of nutrition is awash with charts, tables, diagrams,
models, acronyms, and abbreviations; more than the average person
can memorize. As such, one often comes across someone who has simply
burnt out trying to keep track of how much to eat, when to eat it,
how to find the calories from fat, the RDI, the DV, and so on. There
is an overkill of useful information within the nutrition field, and
it can ironically provoke one to grow weary and exhausted, tune out,
and go grab a fast food burger.

Yet every once in a while, a concept within the nutrition field
emerges that truly demands attention. Over a decade ago, the USDA’s
“Food Pyramid” was one such concept because it helped eaters
discover how many gaps existed in their typical daily diet. Now, as
the Food Pyramid begins to take a new shape, and as the nutrition
field works to establishes itself as the most important branch of
health care in the 21st century, an invention called the Glycemic
Index is taking center stage.

Diabetics: The Benefits of Whey Protein

The benefits of whey protein are so numerous and apply to so many
different groups of people, that listing them all would be quite a
large undertaking. In the sense of an overview, the benefits of whey
protein make it an excellent choice for individuals of all ages who
struggle to maintain a healthy diet and to improve their overall
health.

Providing all of the essential amino acids, which are the building
blocks of healthy muscles, nails, skin and other connective tissue,
whey protein not only is almost completely devoid of cholesterol but
aids in the removal of “bad” cholesterol from the body. Whey protein
has the ideal combination of amino acids to help improve body
composition and enhance athletic performance.

Whey protein is an excellent source of the essential amino acid,
leucine. Leucine is important for athletes as it plays a key role in
promoting muscle protein synthesis and muscle growth. Whey protein
is a soluble, easy to digest protein and is efficiently absorbed
into the body.

Diabetics: South Beach Diet Or Another Fad Diet?

I have thoroughly researched this diet and am giving you every
detail of south beach diet for information.

South beach diet book is founded on the premise that switching to
good carbs stops insulin resistance and curbs appetite which leads
to weight loss. Also, good fats protect the heart and prevent
hunger.

But this is hardly true as you will learn after reading this
article.

South beach diet book offers a simplistic solution to weight loss.
All you need to do is eat good carbs like whole grains, vegetables
and beans instead of eating bad carbs like sugar white breads and
potatoes.

South beach diet says, fast sugars are worst for dieters and slow
sugars are good.

Diabetics: Relieve constipation with aloe vera

Menstruating or pregnant women should not use Aloe Vera, in any
form, to relieve constipation

Aloe Vera is a wonder herb that has been around for thousands of
years. It has been used for both external and internal problems –
skin rashes, burns, ulcers, internal bleeding. It also promotes
bowel movements, which helps to relieve constipation. I have found
that some people are allergic to Aloe Vera. So if you show a rash or
have any other undesirable symptoms, don’t use it.

Aloe is an astringent, acts to tighten muscles, and has purgative
and laxative action – dispels fecal matter that has collected in
your colon. There are many aloe vera products to choose from. For
best results, choose an aloe that is close to that of fresh organic
aloe whole leaf.

Diabetics: You Are What You Eat: Triglycerides and Diet

I must confess that I am a Steve Martin fan. Like me he studied
philosophy in his earlier days. He plays a banjo like I wish I
could. And he is funny. In 1987 he was in a movie entitled
“Roxanne”. He played a small town fire chief with an enormous nose
who fell in love with a beautiful astronomer played by Daryl Hannah.
The only problem was she had an eye for a younger fireman with a
relatively normal nose. C.D. Bales (Steve Martin), having a poetic
command of the English language, agreed to coach the younger and
much more awkward man in his pursuit of the educated astronomer. It
is a hilarious twist on an old story. In one of the more sober
scenes C.D.’s friend Trixie encourages him to pursue the young
maiden for himself since he was obviously in love with her. She
makes her point by saying the truth “is as plain as the nose on your
face.” Well said.

Diabetics: Redeeming Unsaturated Fat

The most dreaded word in many dieter’s vocabulary is ‘fat’. It is
not uncommon to hear a dieter discuss their avoidance of eating fat
as if it were something thoroughly unwholesome, or even
life-threatening, like an allergen, or a contagious disease.

In one way, this impassioned hatred of fat is positive. It reflects
a generally understood medical truth that overindulging in fat-rich
foods often causes unwanted, and unhealthy, weight gain.

However, in another way, this fat-phobia is potentially dangerous,
because awareness of fat is not enough; an understanding of how fat
influences weight gain and overall health is required.
Unfortunately, those who dread and avoid all fat “as a rule” are
overlooking an important difference between saturated fat and
unsaturated fat.

Diabetics: Protein Principles for Diabetes

Dietary considerations can present a Hobson’s choice in diabetes.
Even when the intake is nutritious, assimilating it can be another
matter. Then there is the problem of progression of diabetic
complications if one ends up with excess glucose or fat in the
system. Excess carbohydrates in a meal, and the resulting
uncontrolled blood sugar levels can be detrimental to any number of
tissues, from the lens of the eye, to the neurons, small blood
vessels and the kidneys. Fat is also a problem with increase
incidences of atherosclerosis, large vessel disease and cardiac
complications. What, then is the appropriate macronutrient for the
diabetic population? Enough medical literature exists to suggest
that in diabetes, proteins are probably the best bet.

Diabetics: Put on a Party that Everyone Can Enjoy -- Even Guests with Diabetes

People who have diabetes -- a disorder of the metabolism, in
which their body has trouble converting food into energy -- must pay
close attention to everything they eat. Their bodies do not have the
mechanisms necessary to properly regulate their blood sugar levels.

Diabetes affects about 17 million Americans so chances are good
someone who has the illness will attend your next party. Since you
don’t want anyone to feel left out, here are some tips to help you
plan a party every guest will enjoy:

* For the main meal, offer your guests variety. Have fish, poultry
and lean cuts of beef, veal or pork available so there will be
something for everyone. Remove the skin -- which is high in fat --
from poultry. This will benefit not only diabetics, but everyone at
your party.

Diabetics: Protein: Common or Missing Link?

Most of us equate the word diet with calorie reduction. This is
understandable, since most diet marketing is relentlessly focused on
offering consumers low-calorie options.

Unfortunately, this way of thinking is categorically wrong. The
simple fact that any nutritionist will verify is that everyone is on
a diet. Even those who do not wish, or do not need, to lose weight
are on a diet, as are those who are increasing their weight. Dieting
has nothing to do with calorie reduction, and everything to do with
calories choices. The foods you ‘choose’ to eat determine the type
of diet you are on.

Diabetics: Pre-Diabetes - The Calm Before the Storm

Remember when the medical world identified pre-hypertension to
better monitor your blood pressure? The new buzz: Pre-Diabetes
concerns a similar condition pinpointing people who are at severe
risk for getting diabetes. Because diabetes silently invades your
body, early detection and corrective action are critically
important.

The goal with identifying pre-diabetes is to prevent the onset of
diabetes from ever happening.

How do you know if you need testing for pre-diabetes? Good question.
The truth is- You may not know. It's our human behavior to wait
until our body produces a pain or ache before we visit the doctor's
office. With pre-diabetes, noticeable symptoms like frequent thirst
and urination may not occur until the disease has progressed and is
already causing considerable damage to your body. Most Type 2
diabetics don't have symptoms because the onset of diabetes is so
slow.

Diabetics: Pre-Diabetes: "Check Engine" Warning Light

Your car has an early detection system and so does your body. Take 3
minutes to read this article and learn how you can save yourself a
life time of aches, pains, and costly medical bills.

Have you ever had the "Check Engine" warning light come on in your
car? Most newer cars have a system that monitors the performance of
your car. If something is not working properly, the "Check Engine"
light usually comes on.

The good news is that this "pre-warning" system can help you avoid
costly damage, which may be occurring with your vehicle, by
detecting small problems before they become big problems. However,
the only way to be certain is to have your car inspected by an
expert mechanic when the "Check Engine" light comes on.

Diabetics: Medical Alert Jewelry: A Life Saving Fashion Statement

No one really wants to be labeled as “different.” And certainly, no
one wants to create that label and apply it to him or herself. But
many medical conditions require some form of identification
indicating that such a condition exists and must be considered in
the case of an emergency. Thus, millions of people with hundreds of
medical conditions must advertise that fact simply to protect
themselves. For many, jewelry is the chosen medium.

Fact: Up to 15% of the population of the United States could
experience a life-threatening reaction to foods, drugs, insect bites
or latex.

Fact: Many diabetics suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood glucose)
have been mistakenly identified as being drunk.

Diabetics: Medical Alert Bracelets for Diabetics

If you or someone you love has diabetes, getting a diabetic medical
alert bracelet is imperative. Because of the nature of the
condition, diabetics can have medical emergencies at any time. If
they're not with someone who knows their medical condition's
specifics, medicinal mistakes could be made. To be proactive about
diabetic care, investing in a diabetic medical alert bracelet is a
good idea.

Diabetes is such a tricky disease; one never knows when they may
need medical attention. Due to the nature of the disease, fainting
or passing out is not uncommon. When being revived by paramedics,
it’s important for them to know that you are diabetic and require
specialized care.

Diabetics: Lose Weight Without Starvation!

Everyone at one point in his or her life needs or wants to loose
weight. Whether it is for health reason, or just to feel better
about you, deciding on a weight loss plan is not as easy as it
sounds.

There are literally thousands of plans and products on the market
today designed to help the overweight shed unwanted pounds.

One such plan is the low carb diet plan. On this plan, carbohydrate
intake is limited to a few grams per day. By limiting breads and
pastas, the body uses the fat that stored and there by the dieter
starts to loose weight within weeks. Some of the foods that should
be avoided when on a low carb diet are; Candy, Donuts, Cakes and
Pastries. Anything containing white flour such as bread, rolls,
bagels, pasta and white rice should also be avoided.

Diabetics: Just How Dangerous Are Splenda and Artificial Sweeteners

There seems to be fairly poor tracking by any formal standards once
a product is approved as a food additive. Despite supposedly
tracking adverse reactions, the reality has been different at the
FDA. Aspartame is a case in point. Apparent collusion, distorted
research reports, lack of funding for independent research,
questionable practices in tracking adverse reactions and reporting
them. It's a pretty ugly sounding story. It's been said that
Aspartame is a contract on humanity. Here's one source you might
find puts you off Aspartame for good:

Diabetics: How Does A Person Acquire Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where the body, or to be precise the
pancreas, loses its ability to create insulin, the chemical
necessary to regulate blood sugar levels. As we take in food, a
substance called glucose enters through the bloodstream, and it is
insulin's role to make sure that that glucose is carried to
different parts of the body, in turn fuels us with the energy we
need. Diabetes is often considered as a silent disease, much like
cancer and nearly five out of ten people are unaware that they have
diabetes.

So how did we get such a disease? A known fact about diabetes is
that it can be hereditary, especially if a family member has a
history of diabetes. Obesity is also one of the most common factors,
leading to the lack of exercise and high blood pressure levels. US
studies have shown that diabetes can also develop when a mother
gives birth to a child who weighs more than 9 pounds.

I have a fast metabolism and twenty pounds underweight. The increasing
periods of uncontrolled blood sugar interfered with my thought processes
at work and especially with my family.

Diabetics: Health,Medicine and Glyconutrition

We've all gotten used to the idea that certain maladies will be
around for a while…like until the Second Coming. Maladies such as
cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis…and many more are
expected to be around, in epidemic proportions, longer than we think
we will be alive…and anyone who tries to tell us otherwise is looked
upon with real skepticism. In fact, when anyone tries to tell us
"there's hope" for such maladies as, say, diabetes, we are more
likely to believe that the person is trying to sell us something…and
usually we are right.

Diabetics: EyeCare America Promotes No-Cost Medical Eye Screenings

As someone’s sight diminishes, so does the ability to fully
experience some of life’s richest moments -- a grandchild learning
to ride a bike, for example, or any number of nature’s visual
wonders. Furthermore, when people go blind, they face loss of
independence and are more likely to suffer from depression.

Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness in the United States, is a
group of eye diseases that gradually steals sight without warning
and often without symptoms. In fact, nearly 3 million people have
glaucoma, but half do not realize it. Approximately 120,000 are
blind from glaucoma, accounting for 9 percent to 12 percent of all
cases of blindness in the United States. more likely to go blind
than non-diabetics. EyeCare America, the public service foundation
of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, encourages people to take
advantage of its national Glaucoma EyeCare Program. This program
offers glaucoma eye screenings and care for those at increased risk
of glaucoma. To see if you, a loved one or a friend, is eligible to
receive a referral for an eye exam and care, call (800) 391-EYES
(3937), 24 hours, seven days a week, year round. All eligible
callers receive a referral to one EyeCare America’s volunteer
ophthalmologists.

Diabetics: Health Benefits of Olive Oil

Why should you use olive oil? Well there are several reasons.
Substituting olive oil, a monounsaturated fat, for saturated fats or
polyunsaturated fats can:
• Reduce blood pressure
• Inhibit the growth of some cancers
• Benefit people at risk for or with diabetes
• Lessen the severity of asthma and arthritis
• Actually help your body maintain a lower weight

HEALTHY HEART BENEFITS
Atherosclerosis, also called hardening of the arteries, occurs when
particles of LDL cholesterol stick to the walls of the arteries.
Eventually these particles build up and form plaque. This plaque
narrows the blood vessels and increases the work load of the heart
in an effort to get oxygenated blood to the entire body. The result
can be a heart attack or stroke.
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat and antioxidants like
chlorophyll, carotenoids and vitamin E.

Diabetics: Discover the Positive Effects of Exercise for Diabetes Sufferers

There are two main types of diabetes, type I and type II. Type I
diabetes is characterized by the pancreas making too little or no
insulin. An individual with diabetes type I will have to inject
insulin throughout the day in order to control glucose levels.
Type II diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes, is
characterized by the pancreas not producing enough insulin to
control glucose levels or the cells not responding to insulin.
When a cell does not respond to insulin, it is known as insulin
resistance. When a subject is diagnosed with type II diabetes,
exercise and weight control are prescribed as measures to help
with insulin resistance. If this does not control glucose levels,
then medication is prescribed. The risk factors for type II
diabetes include: inactivity, high cholesterol, obesity, and
hypertension. Inactivity alone is a very strong risk factor that
has been proven to lead to diabetes type II. Exercise will have a
positive effect on diabetes type II while improving insulin
sensitivity while type I cannot be controlled be an exercise
program. Over 90% of individuals with diabetes have type II.

Myth #2: If it is in your family, you will get it too.
No. Studies have shown that there is a genetic
predisposition for diabetes, so if it runs in the family, it
should be taken as a sign that individuals may have an
increased risk for developing the disease.

A callus may cause foot pain. It is a skin build-up that developed
due to pressure over the bone. It is usually found on the foot's
bottom, and causes pain when walking. Shoes may also cause foot pain
– too loose or too tight shoes may give you incredible pain in your
foot.

Diabetics: Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease affecting the manner in which the body handles digested
carbohydrates. If neglected, diabetes can cause extremely severe
health complications, ranging from blindness to kidney failure.

Around eight percent of the population in the United States has
diabetes. This means that around sixteen million people have been
diagnosed with the disease, based only on national statistics. The
American Diabetes Association estimates that diabetes accounts for
178,000 deaths, as well as 54,000 amputees, and 12,000-24,000 cases
of blindness annually. Blindness is twenty-five times even more
common among diabetic patients in comparison with nondiabetics. If
current trends continue, by the year 2010 complications of diabetes
will exceed both heart disease and cancer as the leading cause of
death in America.

Diabetics have a high level of blood glucose. Blood sugar level is
regulated by insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, which
releases it in response to carbohydrate consumption. Insulin causes
the cells of the body to absorb glucose from the blood. The glucose
then serves as fuel for cellular functions.

Diabetics: 4 Important Facts You Should Know About Whey Protein

Are you concerned about taking care of your body before and after
strenuous activities or workouts? Do you try to avoid supplements
that contain additives and possible side effects?

If you are interested in better health and improved physical
fitness you have surely heard that bodybuilders and other
athletes are turning to a simple, natural supplement called whey
protein.

WHY DO ATHLETES USE WHEY PROTEIN?

Protein levels are depleted through exercise. Muscles require
amino acids to prevent deterioration, give endurance and build
mass. Proteins supply these amino acids to the muscles which is
why athletes use whey protein.

WHAT IS WHEY PROTEIN?

Commercial whey protein comes from cow's milk. Whey is the
by-product of making cheese and was usually thrown away as a
waste product. Now researchers know that whey protein is high
quality, natural protein that is rich with amino acids essential
for good health and muscle building. It is naturally found in
mother's milk and also used in baby formula. It is being
considered for use as a fortifier of grain products because of
its considerable health benefits and bland flavor.

Diabetics: Basic Meal & Menu Planning

As a basis for meals and menu planning, refer to the pyramid
information mentioned earlier to make sure you have the basic food
requirements met for all family members. Then cross check and plan
by looking over basic food categories to target healthy foods to fit
the lifestyles and health of everyone. For example, if someone has
depression, add some foods mentioned above to his or her dietary
plans that aid in the healing and prevention of depression.

Meal planning also depends upon several factors like the number of
people eating, meal times, special dietary concerns, budget,
available foods, recipes on hand and likes and dislikes of everyone
who will be eating. Begin by choosing foods and recipes that you
like and know how to prepare well and that fit into everyoneÕs
dietary plans. If one or more people have special needs, like
diabetics, plan ahead for substitutions either in the food
preparation or food substitution for that individual or for those
individuals.

Diabetics: Brief Overview Of Diabetes And Diet

Diabetes has been around for centuries. There are presently sixteen
millions diabetics in America, but eight million do not know that
they have the disease. Today, diabetes is in third place as the
cause of mortality, behind cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Diabetes is caused by a disruption in insulin production in the
body. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas when the level
of blood sugar, glucose, increases – after a meal, most commonly.
With the help of insulin, glucose moves from the blood into the
cells. The cellular components turn the glucose into energy. When
glucose does not enter cells, it stays in the blood and is filtered
by kidneys which later eliminate it from the bloodstream.

Health-Insurance: Why Our Healthcare System Isn't Healthy

Most people are well aware that an estimated 45 million Americans
currently do not have healthcare, but is the crisis simply the lack
of health insurance or even the cost of health insurance? Is there a
bigger underlying problem at the root of our healthcare system?
Although the U.S. claims to have the most advanced medicine in the
world, government health statistics and peer-reviewed journals are
painting a different picture -- that allopathic medicine often
causes more harm than good.

Health-Insurance: What to look for in good Health Insurance

Health insurance is a kind of protection that provides payment of
benefits for covered sickness or injury. Included in health
insurance are various types of insurance such as accident insurance,
disability income insurance, medical expense insurance, and
accidental death and dismemberment insurance.

Before sign the health insurance policy make sure that you have read
thoroughly the benefit’s section. Take note of any health care
service that is not covered by your health insurance policy. Also,
pay specific attention to how the health insurance policy is worded.
Sometimes, health insurance companies hide the health insurance
coverage exclusions within the definitions of words.

For instance, a health insurance company may define the term
‘emergency’ as anything that is life threatening condition that
cannot be reasonably treated by a primary care physician. Whereas,
your definition of ‘emergency’ may be anything that requires quick
medical attention.

Health-Insurance: Why hire a virtual top doctor consultant

When you need a specialist, how do you go about finding one? Do you
look in the Yellow Pages, go to an HMO or walk-in, rely on a
hospital referral, a friend, an online directory of doctors, or
perhaps a referral from your primary care physician?

Looking for the best doctor to suite your medical needs can be a
problem, especially if you don̢۪t have time and you need to
research the doctor̢۪s credentials. Whether you̢۪re in urgent need
of help, or just need a second opinion, I will show you how to
access all the information you need – through the Internet’s
Virtual Top Doctor Consultant.

Health-Insurance: What should you do if diagnosed with asbestos-related disease?

Asbestos is a toxic chemical substance that has been used directly
or indirectly in hundreds of products across the globe. It is
incorrect and inappropriate for human beings to have excessive
exposure to asbestos. This might result in malignant mesothelioma -–
a rare cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart
-– and other diseases.
It is amazing to find that, asbestos has still not been entirely
banned in the United States, and Americans continue to risk exposure
to this dangerous fiber.

If you feel that you have been exhibiting symptoms of mesothelioma
(like shortness of breath, pain in the chest or back region,
swelling in the abdomen, difficulty swallowing, cough, fever,
sweating, fatigue, and weight loss.), it is important for you to
consult your doctor immediately. There are various methods that are
available for treating the victims of mesothelioma.

Health-Insurance: Understanding Health Insurance Coverage

Health Insurance Coverage: What are ‘Covered’ Services?
Health insurance coverage is a contract used to determine medical
benefits that are covered, or not covered, between you and your
insurance provider. The insurance company, based on a fee that you
provide them on a regular basis, promises to pay health insurance
coverage on certain items or benefits listed in that contract. These
are called ‘covered’ services. ‘Covered’ services can include a wide
variety of things, such as implements, prescriptions, services (such
as massage), checkups, tests and/or research.

Health-Insurance: Treatment Options for Prescription Drug Addiction

There is help available for people addicted to prescription drugs.
There are countless inpatient and outpatient programs around the
world that are specifically created to help people kick their drug
addictions. These programs usually include detox centers,
psychologists, and often include safe alternative substances to help
curb withdrawal symptoms. The level of treatment needed depends on
the length and severity of the addiction. It is important that
people realize that some type of treatment or rehabilitation is
always a good idea. It can be dangerous for an addict to try to quit
taking drugs without any medical advice or intervention.

Health-Insurance: Travel Nurses Provide One Solution To Nursing Shortage

America is in the midst of a nursing shortage that is expected to
get worse as baby boomers age and the need for health care
increases. Complicating the nursing shortage problem is the fact
that nursing schools and universities across the country are having
difficulty maintaining enrollment levels that remain insufficient to
meet the projected demand for nursing care.

Based on a recent survey, it is common knowledge that there is a
nursing shortage and this is viewed as a serious issue. The study
revealed that 75% of Americans think that the nursing shortage is a
very real and very important health care concern. The general view
is that the nursing shortage will have a negative effect on health
care services. The poll indicates that 81 percent of the population
is acutely aware of the nursing shortage and fully 65 percent
believe that the nursing shortage is nearing crisis levels.

Health-Insurance: The Need for Pre-Employment Drug Testing

Employers have many reasons for requiring pre-employment drug
testing. One of the most obvious reasons is that of safety. Those
handling dangerous equipment or those who drive commercial vehicles
have a greater chance of accidents or inflicting injury upon
themselves or others if they are under the influence. Companies have
a moral and legal obligation to ensure that their employees adhere
to Federal work-safety guidelines, and pre-employment drug
screenings can be an effective tool.

Insurance and health-related absences provide two more reasons for
implementing pre-employment drug testing. More than 175 million
Americans are enrolled in workplace group health insurance; with an
average of a 30% increase in premiums in the last three years,
pre-employment drug testing may be one way to cut down on costs.
Studies have linked short- and long-term health problems with drug
abuse. Drug abusers are more likely to develop respiratory problems
and are generally more susceptible to illness. Employers often view
drug abusers as irresponsible since many absences can be attributed
to the after-effects of drug usage. Employee absences cost employers
millions of dollars every year, and many human resource experts
suggest that pre-employment drug testing can reduce these costs.

Health-Insurance: The Need for HIPAA Complaint Medical Billing Software

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
(HIPAA) includes seven sets of rules that will affect your practice.
The Department of Health and Human Services, or DHHS, issues these
in the form of the "Notice of Proposed Rule Making" or NPRM. Every
practice, regardless of size, must comply with HIPAA privacy,
security and transactional regulations. Moreover, adherence to all
subsequent regulations is also required. This covers most everything
in your practice, including your medical billing software.

When you are shopping for medical billing software, ask how and for
whom the system was designed, and whether the data will be safe and
secure on backed-up, protected, HIPAA-compliant servers accessible
only to authorized persons. Look for companies who provide free
updates to ensure continued efficiency and HIPAA compliance. The new
HIPAA standards require huge changes to how healthcare organizations
deal with their patient information, including coding, security,
patient record management, reimbursement and care management.
HIPAA‘s provisions include stringent codes for the unvarying
transfer of electronic data, including routine alterations and
billing.

Health-Insurance: THE TOP FIVE HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS

Since competition in terms of health insurance is on the rise, it is
no wonder that more and more forms of health insurance are being
designed. Among these, there are few that are popular and they are
briefly described below.

Individual Insurance: Ensuring a person individually is a common
mode of insurance. One may be selective about what s/he wants in a
plan through this process. Accordingly, one has required premium is
calculated, and the insurance plan takes effect.

Group Insurance: Another type of insurance is the group arrangement.
Through this type of insurance, one is compelled to abide by what
others are going for, and this is dependent on the insurance
providers. They are the ones that decide what is feasible to include
in a plan, and on that basis, a group insurance can take place.

Health-Insurance: Parkinsons Disease & TAI CHI THERAPY

In a special to CNN, the Mayo Clinic’s mayoclinic.com reported that,
“Parkinson's disease is progressive, meaning the signs and symptoms
become worse over time. But although Parkinson's may eventually be
disabling, the disease often progresses gradually, and most people
have many years of productive living after a diagnosis.” This would
indicate that there may be effective interventions that could
perhaps slow the progress of the disease. When we get such a
diagnosis, our first reaction might be to withdraw and give up.
However, the old adage “use it or lose it” tells us that just the
opposite is true. If you have Parkinson’s, you’d likely be best off
to use everything your body is, every which way, on a regular basis.

Health-Insurance: No Excuses Exercises

It's old news that exercising is the single best way to spark up
your weight loss efforts. The activity perks up your metabolism, and
eats up more calories. In addition, the more you exercise, the
better the effect. Exercising builds muscle mass, which is denser
and more compact than fat. That means your body has to expend more
effort to pump blood through it, and it requires more nutrients to
keep it healthy. The end result? Even at rest, your body naturally
burns more calories.

Unfortunately, the prospect of exercising tends to elicit groans
from most people. There's all the logistics to work out - the time,
equipment, expense and the sheer, utter boringness of it all.
Negative thinking about exercise can sabotage all your good
intentions. Here's a list of answers for some of the most commonly
used excuses not to exercise.

Health-Insurance: Medicare and Hearing Aids

While approximately .08% of children born in the U.S. have some
degree of hearing impairment, the vast majority of audio-impaired
people are over age 50. Because the people in this age range often
have limited resources for health coverage, purchasing hearing aids
can be financially difficult.

It is not unusual for older people to procrastinate about going to
hearing evaluations. They usually know if they are losing their
hearing and know that hearing aids are expensive. If they are
uninsured or underinsured, they may have trouble making such a
purchase.

Unfortunately for those without private health insurance, hearing
aids may have to be purchased out-of-pocket. The debate of the issue
of Medicare and hearing aids has been a lengthy and ongoing battle.
With only a few exceptions, Medicare continues to exclude hearing
aid coverage in both of the plans: A & B. Even people who purchase
additional Medigap policies through private insurance companies will
not receive hearing aid coverage.

Health-Insurance: Medical Billing Companies: An Overview

Every healthcare provider, including dentists, surgeons, doctors, or
chiropractors, is entitled to receive money for their services.
Medical billing companies are setup to make it easier for them to
wade through the murky waters or regulation and insurance company
code to ensure proper and timely reimbursement.

Employees trained by medical billing companies are trained to
understand health insurance and the healthcare industry in all its
complexity. Their individual responsibilities are then to bill
patients and insurance companies based on the proper codes according
to their superbill (treatment record). Then, they have to follow up
on claims and answer any questions regarding billing. In addition,
medical billers must submit reports and help their clients to
understand the positive and negative aspects of their cash flow.

Health-Insurance: MEDICAL BANKRUPTCIES: WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF

First the bad news: about 2,000,000 personal bankruptcies each year
are caused by unexpected medical expenses. Of all those people,
1,500,000 have (or had) health insurance before they ran into
difficult financial straights.

But wait a minute. Isn't the whole idea behind health insurance -
security? The financial security that comes from knowing that you're
covered if something goes wrong with your body? You say you're
covered, but what if your medical "situation" exceeds your policy
limits? Then what?

Health-Insurance: Long Term Health Care Options

As you grow older, housing may pose more and more of a concern,
especially if your health is failing. If you are worried that you
may not be able to take care of your basic needs as you age, such as
cleaning, cooking, bathing and maintenance, then looking at your
long term health care options is an important choice. Let’s start
right away with your options.

In-Home Care
In-home health care is the best option for people who have a higher
level of fitness, and want to remain as independent as possible
throughout their later years. In this situation, home health care
nurses may come and visit you daily, or every couple of days, to
take care of your everyday medical needs. Also, a housekeeper may be
utilized, as well as a personal health care attendant, who would be
responsible for more of the day-to-day living help – such as a
companion, driver, cook or the like. In-home health care is quite
easy to locate; just contact a nurses’ association or look in the
Yellow Pages.

Health-Insurance: Lose Weight - Do You Really Need To?

If you are overweight, you may be more at risk of developing
disease. That should be reason enough to lose weight. Weight related
conditions include:

Premature death
Cardiovascular disease
High blood pressure
High Cholesterol
Stroke
Gallbladder Disease
Osteoarthritis
Sleep apnea and breathing problems
Some cancers
Diabetes

Health-Insurance: Mammograms Are No Joke - They Can Save Lives

There are so many jokes about mammograms! Have you heard the one
about the fridge door …or the bookends …or the garage floor? Thanks
to all the jokes, “Mammogram” has become a household word, and it’s
not that I don’t have a sense of humor, but as a mammography
technologist, I’ve heard the jokes many times. I think the jokes are
embarrassing for women and demeaning with regard to their physical
bodies. Many women say, “If men had to do this, there would be a
better solution” - this may or may not be true. Most people agree
that mammograms are not perfect, but until there is a better
solution, I think it’s time to look at mammograms in a different
light.

Health-Insurance: Is Pet Health Insurance an Option?

Most pet owners aren’t aware that health insurance for their loved
animals has been available for about 15 years now. However, both the
availability and restrictions on most plans have made this type of
health insurance out of reach for most pet owners.

Interestingly enough, pet health insurance has changed in the past
couple of years. Now, animal owners are able to afford medical
procedures previously prohibitive because of the cost. But many
skeptics are concerned that health insurance for pets will see an
increase in the red tape us humans already encounter every day.

Health-Insurance: How to Shop for Individual Health Insurance

If you find yourself in the position of shopping for an individual
health insurance policy, there are certain things you'll want to
keep in mind. Whether you are coming out of a job that covered you
before, or are at the end of your COBRA benefits, or simply have
never had coverage before there are things you can do to get
coverage on yourself and your loved ones.

The basic thing to know is that if you have a shot a group health
insurance, whether through a job or an association you're a member
of, that is usually much more affordable than buying individual
health insurance on your own. First you need to figure out your
health insurance goals; in other words, what are you after? If
you're young, healthy as a horse, no dependents and not attempting
Mt. Everest next week, you may want to opt for a policy that covers
only the catastrophes, and cover the rest out-of-pocket. On the flip
side of that, if you're the sole bread winner with a family to
support, the scenario is different.

Health-Insurance: Is Cosmetic Surgery Right For You?

For most of us, we go through the majority of our lives not even
noticing our skin; then one day we wake up and notice we just got
older. I remember that day!

We might begin to look tired with bags under our eyes, our eyelids
look a bit droopier and our cheeks sag a little more than they use
to. Perhaps you're getting tired of your thin lips or large nose or
maybe you just want a fresher or more glowing look.

Health-Insurance: How To Get Fit And Slash Your Health Insurance Costs

Okay, before we start, let me explain the purpose of this
article. I want you to get so healthy, you'll never need
to make a health insurance claim. You'll save money by
increased fitness. You'll save money with a long no-claims
insurance history. And you'll look and feel much better.

There's three sides to your maximum health and fitness.
Diet, and Exercise. But that's only two ! Let me split
Exercise into Aerobic exercise and Aneorobic exercise.

Get all three right. Get the right balance. And you'll
get as fit and healthy as your body and genetics will
allow

Health-Insurance: How to Find Affordable Health Insurance

Affordable health insurance - it seems, especially today, those words just
don't belong together in the same sentence. Health insurance monthly
premiums have become the biggest single expense in our lives - surpassing
even mortgage payments. In fact, if you have any permanent health
problems, such as diabetes, or have had cancer at one time in your family
history, your monthly cost could easily be more than the house and car
payment combined.

Shopping for affordable health insurance can certainly be an eye-opener.
If you have always had a health insurance benefit where you work -
especially a state or federal employee - and now have to buy your own, you
may not be able to afford the level of health insurance coverage you have
become used to.

Health-Insurance: How To Choose A Health Insurance Plan

Are you thinking about buying health insurance? With so many
different alternatives, it is difficult to know which to choose.

When choosing a health insurance plan, never base your decision
solely on the monthly premium. There are many other cost factors --
deductibles, co-payments, and the like -- that will determine the
true price tag of your insurance. You'll need to read the fine print
of the health insurance plan, including what it does and does not
cover, the in-network versus out-of-network coverage and costs,
claims processing procedures, and the coverage limits.

Know Your Health Care Needs

Health-Insurance: Health Insurance - Are You Covered?

With the ever-increasing cost of health care, procedures and
medicines, it's no wonder that the cost of health insurance has also
dramatically risen over the past few years. But as that's happened,
insurance companies and the government have seen the potential
negative impact of families and individuals without insurance. There
are some things you can do if you don't have health insurance.

A federal mandate requires that all 50 states have a health
insurance program for children. Each state was allowed to create a
plan tailored to the needs of children in that state, but there are
some things that are the same from one state to the next. The first
is eligibility.

Health-Insurance: Health Insurance and health care

Health insurance is something that everyone needs today. The rising
cost of visiting a health care provider or a hospital stay makes it
imperative that everyone have some type of health care coverage.
Government statistics estimate that over 40 million people in
America are not covered by any type of health insurance on any given
day. That's an enormous number of people who really are taking a
financial risk.

Health-Insurance: Health Plans

Choosing a health insurance plan that is best for you and your
family is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make.
Choosing between health plans is not as easy as it once was.
Although there is no one best plan, there are some plans that will
be better than others for you and your family's health needs. Plans
differ, both in how much you have to pay and how easy it is to get
the services you need. No plan will pay for all the costs associated
with your medical care, some plans will cover more than others.

Health-Insurance: Exercise

America is getting more obese every year. Even our children are
becoming dangerously obese, even though we are more self conscious
over our appearance. So what's the magic bullet to getting trim and
fit. Well, I'll be honest, there isn't any. First, we are all
limited by our heredity. If your father has a spare tire, you're
probably going to be predisposed to have one yourself if your a man.

Health-Insurance: Health Care Costs Are Rising At Epidemic Proportions - Here's How To Protect Yourself

Health care costs are now approaching 15% of our national economy
and the economic repercussions have been felt by most American
families as employers are unwilling to absorb the bulk of the health
care cost burden.

In 2004, employer health insurance premiums increased by 11.2% -
nearly four times the rate of inflation. The annual premium for an
employer health plan covering a family of four averaged nearly
$10,000. The annual premium for single coverage averaged $3,695.
Health insurance premiums will rise to an average of more than
$14,500 for family coverage in 2006.

Health-Insurance: Buying Used Electric Wheelchairs

Mounting health costs and cuts to government funding are making
wheelchair users seek heaper alternatives like used electric
wheelchairs. Secondhand electric wheelchairs are no doubt heaper
than new ones but a lot of care should be taken when buying a used
electric wheelchair.

Sources of used electric wheelchairs are primarily relatives,
friends, and local support groups. Information about used electric
wheelchairs is also available in advertisements on bulletin boards,
newsletters, Web sites, at local hospitals and rehabilitation
centers, or local disability organizations. Information for finding
used wheelchairs can also be found in newspaper classifieds or in
pawnshops.

Health-Insurance: Before You Look for Health Insurance

Shopping around for medical insurance can be a confusing business.
You need to keep your wits about you and keep track of the benefits
and costs of each policy and each type of policy. Too often we tend
to look at the price first and the rest of the policy becomes a blur
of fine print. And we're off to check the next policy.

Slow down. There some important things you should do before you
start chasing around to get a policy. Doing these few things will
make the whole process simpler and clearer - and you're much more
likely to make a good decision.

Health-Insurance: Be Wary of Discount Prescription Drug Cards

The newest thing in the American medical savings game is
prescription drug cards, where users pay a monthly fee (anywhere
from $10-100, approximately) that nets them discounts at their local
medical establishment. Doctors, pharmacists, dentists and even
hospitals are all jumping on the discount prescription drug card
bandwagon.

And although they sound like an excellent idea to most consumers,
these discount prescription drug cards do carry some risks. This
article will detail what to look out for so that you remain an
informed medical consumer.

Health-Insurance: Bariatric Surgery Costs

The cost of Bariatric surgery can be quite high. The typical price
of an operation can be $25,000 or more. Medical insurance coverage
varies by state and insurance provider, and although some states
have legislation in place that requires insurers to offer weight
loss surgery for patients, providing it meets health criteria laid
down by the National Institutes of Health, other states do not. This
means that patients who would benefit from bariatric surgery often
have to contend with providers that have not yet accepted that this
kind of weight loss surgery can deliver powerful medical benefits
that will save them money in the long run. A patient encountering
this problem may have to work with his or her surgeon to prove to
the health insurance provider that the proposed surgery is not a
cosmetic procedure, but a potentially life-saving operation that
will minimize future health problems.

Health-Insurance: Arizona Drug Rehab Finding Help in Arizona

The state of Arizona has one of the worst drug problems in the
United States. Historically and currently, the state is known as a
transhipment location for a variety of drugs, including heroin,
cocaine and marijuana, which are imported from other countries. As a
result, these and other drugs are widely available in the state, and
their abuse is common. There are probably few states that require
the presence of rehabilitation centers as this one does - thankfully
Arizona drug rehab centers are some of the best in the world.

Health-Insurance: Are You Sometimes Confused by Written Medical Instructions?

Now, imagine what it would be like if you were sick, scared and
had only third grade reading skills. Your doctor tells you, "You've
got to follow these instructions exactly, or you could die."

About 200 recent studies have shown the reading difficulty of
most health related materials FAR exceeds the average reading
abilities of the American adult. One of the biggest silent health
problems today is the gap between health materials and reading
skills.

Health-Insurance: Alert: New HIPAA Rules Could Affect Your Organization's Email System

On April 21, 2005, a new Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) security rule went into effect. The
requirements of this rule, which are basically information security
best practices, focus on the three cornerstones of a solid
information security infrastructure: confidentiality, integrity and
availability of information.

The HIPAA regulatory requirements encompass transmission, storage
and discoverability of Protected Health Information (PHI). Given the
widespread use and mission-critical nature of email, enforcement of
HIPAA encryption policies and the growing demand for secure email
solutions, email security has never been more important to the
healthcare industry than it is right now.

Health-Insurance: A Canadian Pharmacy is a Lifesaver for Some Americans

Many of you may have heard about the ongoing war between the
Canadian pharmacy and the American pharmacy. The American FDA has
recently been trying to crack down on prescription drugs imported
from Canada to the United States. But why is this? What exactly got
the FDA's feathers ruffled?

The FDA states that it is illegal to import any prescription drugs
from overseas. Anything found at the United States border will be
seized. But this shouldn't include a Canadian pharmacy. Canada isn't
even overseas... right? That's what many Americans say who
frequently cross over the American border into Canada to go to a
Canadian pharmacy. This has gotten the FDA a tad angry.

Health-Insurance: An Introduction to Medical Billing

A growing number of professional, experienced health consultants and
medical claim processors are needed in the country today. Healthcare
is such a large and technologically driven industry that knowledge
and procedures used today are likely to be seen as far outdated only
a few years from now. To keep pace with all the various procedures,
techniques, and technologies available and distinguish one from the
other in a clear manner, definitions are made and coded for every
kind of surgical procedure, diagnosis, and complaint. These
definitions and codes help doctors ensure that they are compensated
accurately for their services by the health insurance companies.

Health-Insurance: An Explanation of Medical Billing Software Prices

Medical billing software prices can vary widely depending on the
size and scope of your practice and the software package you choose.
Medical billing software is offered in many forms to the discerning
customer. Innovations in the technology of medical billing software
have created a new benchmark of digital accuracy. There are many
packages offered, such as software with equipment lease, software
lease via the Internet, or the software along with installation and
training. When you are evaluating the needs of your practice,
consider the factors that will affect the cost of your medical
billing software such as the number of users, the number of
patients, amount of use, and amount of data storage.

Credit-Repair: Home Loans Repair Your Credit Before You Buy

Before you take out a home loan or make any major purchase, you should be
aware that any prospective lender will want to take a look at your credit
report. Your credit report is a record of all of your past financial
dealings, and any loans, credit cards, judgements, bankruptcies or other
major financial transactions are listed there. Along with your credit
report will come your credit score, which is a three digit number between
300 and 850 that represents a distillation of all of the above. That score
represents your entire financial life, and your ability to obtain
financing for any major purchase depends on having a good one. What if you
don’t have a good record? Should you go to one of those companies that
promise to repair your credit? What you should do is repair it yourself.
